Solo Practice
I skipped the Monday night Vinyasa class last night in the studio and sneaked into the small room in the back where private sessions are held. I was concerned about being a bit disrespectful to G for practicing on my own in the back room rather than take her class, but I was really craving a First Series practice.
I had a good practice, especially 20 minutes into it after my mind settled down a bit. That little room got so hot so quick, that I had to open the door for some ventilation. It initially felt weird to practice on my own while a class was going on in the main room, but made peace with it as I got deeper into my breath. It’s really all about the breath; No doubt.
My right knee locked on me a couple of times while doing Janu Sirsasana A and B (Seated one-leg head to knee). It was a bit painful too, so I had to take it easy on Mari B, skipping Mari D and Garbha Pindasana. It looks like I’ll have to get it looked at by an orthopedic doc soon, as it seems to be getting progressively worse. Locking is definitely not a good sign, as I’ve been told.
Bujha Pidasana and the Tittibasana transition have been problematic as of late, but it’s just mechanics that I need to work on and fine tune. It’s all small stuff when compared to major injuries, so I’m not really complaining. I have to keep selling myself on the idea that it’s part of the process, regardless of how long the journey is.
I’m shooting for another solo practice tonight, this time at home in my living room. I’ll have to test my will power by not turning on the TV and silencing the phones. Tomorrow evening I’m supposed to practice with my friend W at her 10th floor ocean apartment, which should be a great one.

How much do you totally love the a heated/warm studio?! Granted if you're practicing next to someone who hasn't learned the art of deodorant, that's a little torture (always happens in bikrams), but the body is so much more limber!!!
I like it warm, but not too hot, Tiffany.
Especially down here in FL, where it's already hot and humid outside.
I can understand how you'd crave a heated room, as cold as it gets by the coast in CA.
I read your post on vegetarianism. It's an awesome feeling for me, no doubt. I got sick when I first got into it; Too much carbs and not enough protein wreaked havoc on my system initially.
A balanced diet with lots of nuts (Almonds, Cashews, Walnuts, ...) did the trick.
As in all aspects of life, balance is key.
